Casting Process and Products

The Dandong Iron Casting Group was founded in 1958 and has been producing metal casting products for over 50 years. Grey iron and nodular iron sand castings are produced at our main workshops while steel sand castings and investment castings are produced in our subsidiary workshops. China Iron Foundry is an ISO-certified factory with a production capacity reaching up to 10,000 tons, 70% of which is exported to Austria, USA, Germany, UK, and Japan. Metal Parts for Construction trucks, Machinery, Automobile, Tractor and Mower, Stove and Boiler metal parts, Pump and Valve, Tugboat metal parts, and other Iron and Steel casting parts are among our most popular products.

Dandong Iron Casting Group is equipped with an FBO auto molding production line, traditional manual green sand molding line, resin sand molding line, and investment casting line. Large CNC centers and a 3D measurement unit are also available in our machining workshop.

The Process

Casting is the process of pouring a liquefied substance, such as liquid metal, into a specially constructed mold cavity and allowing it to harden. The workpiece is withdrawn from the mold after solidification to undergo different finishing treatments or to be used as a finished product. Casting products are used in several applications, including construction, automobile components, aerospace parts, generators, forging, household items, and so on.

Casting can be done from almost any metal or alloy that can be melted to a liquified form. Grey iron, malleable iron, ductile iron, and steel are the most common ferrous metals. For high-performance applications such as high temperature, harsh, and corrosive conditions, etc., iron and steel alloys are preferable.

Casting Types and Products

Recent developments in casting technology have resulted in a wide range of advanced casting methods for all types of applications. Die-casting, investment casting, plaster casting, and sand casting are all hot forming methods with a set of advantages in terms of production.

Sand casting uses silica-based materials including synthetic or naturally bonded sand. Casting sand consists of finely ground spherical grains that can be packed closely together to form a flat molding base. The process is engineered to reduce the risk of tearing or cracking by having a modest degree of flexibility and shrinkage during the cooling step. Sand casting is used to produce automotive components e.g., engine blocks. The resin sand molding line of China Iron Foundry has a capacity of 30 tons per hour. The other products available for sand casting include OEM joint bushing, Clutch cover, and aluminum die-casting part as shown below.

Shell Mold Casting uses resin-coated sand to create the mold. This method has greater dimensional precision, a higher production rate, and lower labor requirements as compared with conventional sand casting. It is widely used for making cylinder heads, engine blocks connecting rods, and machine bases.

Investment Casting, also known as lost-wax casting, is an industrial technique and is one of the oldest metal-forming practices. Each cast component is made from a disposable wax pattern. Parts for the automobile, power generation, and aerospace industries, such as turbine blades, are often made using investment casting. The products related to investment casting are available at China Iron Foundry, e.g., glass clamp, silica sol casting part, steel flanges, etc.

Other products supplied by Dandong Iron Casting Group are produced by welding, stamping, and forging processes. These include turbocharger products, hydraulic cylinder products, etc. The standard rough and finish machining work is completed in-house by China Iron Foundry’s machining workshop. CNC lathes, CNC hubs, drilling machines, milling machines, and boring machines are a few examples of machines available.
